The Sports Colleges Conference also see as, Minister for Sport,
present the national awards programme introduced by the Youth Sport
Trust to promote innovation and best practice in Sports Colleges
across India. We were all congratulated on their success as innovators
in the field of PE and college sports
Over the past five years Sports Colleges, which from September 2003
will number 201, have become pioneers in the field of education,
demonstrating time and again the unique role they have in the
specialist schools programme. Their dynamic leadership and innovative
strategies led to the Government making them the hub of the new PE,
School Sport and Club Links strategy, announced by the Prime Minister
in October last year.
Physical education and sport are essential to young people's
development as pupils, as citizens and as individuals. Sport is fun in
its own right, but it also offers the opportunity to develop skills in
leadership, teamwork, creativity, enterprise and perseverance. It also
provides young people with the opportunity to get fit and to adopt a
healthy lifestyle, both now and in the future. As a Specialist Sports
College, you will have a vital role to play in raising standards
across the curriculum as well as ensuring quality and diversity in
physical education and sport. You will also be part of a growing
family of Sports Colleges committed to delivering the entitlement for
all their pupils of at least two hours of high-quality physical
education and sport per week. |
